Ladies
The ladies section at
Tyrrells Wood is a thriving group of over 100 ladies, the
majority of which are 7-day members. We have an Academy for
both men and ladies who later join their appropriate section
when they are more competent with their game and its
etiquette. In fact over the last 3 years we had had
almost 30 join
our section from the Academy and they are thoroughly
enjoying their golf.
Our members range in
playing ability from a handicap of 10 up to the maximum
handicap of 36. We have a number of junior girls and also a
number of ladies in their eighties who still manage 18 holes
on our undulating hills. We have a committee of 12 ladies
whose jobs cover everything that is required to run a very
efficient section.
We hold 28 friendly
matches with other clubs between March and October as well
as various internal knock-out competitions (both individual
and pairs) during the summer and winter. Prizes are usually
presented at our Spring Meeting in May, our Autumn Meeting
in September or at the AGM in November. At the AGM in
November the new captain takes over and the new committee
voted in. The new captain usually has her Drive-In a few
days after the AGM. The present captain for 2008 is
Mrs Gerry Ross who can be contacted through the Club.
We also have the usual
medal and stableford competitions each month together with
various other competitions in aid of NSPCC, Marie Curie,
Macmillan and Moorfields. There are also a number of fun
events and general roll ups during the year. Our ladies day
is Tuesday.
We have a business section
for working ladies and they play their medals and
stablefords on Sundays (late morning). There is also a
regular roll up on Saturday mornings at around 9-00am.
There are also a number of friendly matches in the summer on
Sunday afternoons.
We hold two Guest Days,
one in June and one in August and our main event for the
year, our Ladies Open (team competition) in July.
There are also several
events against and with the men including the EB’s (Elder
Brethren) of the Club, mixed matches (on Sundays) and mixed
events on Bank Holidays.
In addition to the golf
there is a bridge section which meets after golf on a
Tuesday and they play in friendly matches against other
bridge groups locally. There is also a monthly mixed bridge
evening which men and ladies can come and join in.
