Juniors
The club has a junior
membership of between 50 and 60 young people within an age
range of 6 to 17.
The section provides regular
junior competitions, roll up stablefords, inter club matches
including Guildford League, coaching during the winter
months and access to monthly and mid week club medal
competitions.
Tyrrells Wood offers a safe
environment for the juniors who may play at any time during
weekdays and after 12 noon on weekends and Bank holidays,
subject to prior tee reservations for club matches and
competitions, societies etc. There is a health and safety
requirement for juniors under 12 years old to play with an
adult as playing the eighteen hole course involves four
crossings of the road between Headley and Leatherhead.
The junior locker/club room
is situated within the main clubhouse together with a small
lounge. Notice boards in the club room keep the junior
members advised of all relevant matters.
The junior section is
administered by a small committee of adult volunteers
complemented by the junior captain and vice captain and one
other nominated junior member. The current committee
structure is:
Junior Organiser: John Adams
Coaching Officer: Phil Olney
League matches and league squad
organisers: Phil Olney & Tony Allen
Friendly matches and general
administration: Debbie Hay
Competitions Officer and general
administration: Gerry Ross
Junior Captain: Tom Kent
Junior Vice Captain: Paul
Olney
The adult volunteers are
fully conversant with child protection legislation as
published by the English Golf Union, and health and safety
requirements generally.
All juniors agree to abide
by a Code of Conduct on entry into the section. Medical
records and emergency contact details, together with
parental consent authorisations are retained on file at the
club offices.
When reaching the age of 18,
juniors are normally offered Colt membership which allows
for a reduced subscription up to the age of 25. There are
two categories of Colt membership. The first entitles the
Colt to full playing privileges with part of each year’s
subscription contributing to the payment of a reduced
entrance fee at age 25. The second is at a much lower annual
subscription and allows the Colt to play on weekdays and
Sunday afternoons for a reduced green fee, but with no
contribution towards an entrance fee at age 25.
The
club and its adult membership are fully supportive of the
junior section. Annually there are matches against the
seniors, the men and the ladies sections each of which help
to ensure that the juniors become fully integrated within
Tyrrells Wood Golf Club. Juniors with a handicap of 12 or
lower are also allowed to participate in the annual club
championship and some other designated adult competitions.
Each year, there is a
junior annual general meeting, normally held in October,
when the presentations to trophy and competition winners
also takes place.
