As any good Driving Instructor will tell you
“Always check in the mirror before driving off”
and that’s
just how you start your round at Tyrrells Wood -
Look in the mirror! The First is downhill all the
way from an elevated tee and the mirror allows you
to check the progress of the players in front -
essential since big hitters can drive this
green. The large Copper Beech on the left narrows
the fairway, while Stane Street, an old Roman Road,
marks out-of-bounds on the right. The narrow green
was originally made to receive a ball from the side,
so the pitch shot is not necessarily an easy one.
Pro's
Tip
A short
driveable par 4 offers an excellent opportunity for an
opening birdie.
With
trouble both sides an iron for safety is suggested, leaving
a short pitch from a severe downhill lie.
